Support carers to improve outcomes for patients, carers and the health service

Evidence has shown that supporting carers - relatives and friends who provide care - can help reduce readmissions and improve rehabilitation of patients to help the NHS meet the aims of the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP). It can also improve the health of carers who suffer comparatively poor health.

Our report ‘Supporting Carers; the Case for Change’ (334 KB) provides a review of the evidence showing the relative poor health of carers and supporting carers can prevent carers becoming patients; improve post-discharge care and reduce demand on health and social care services
